Meta Quest Pro Lens Issue

Image
The Problem Meta Doesn't Want You to Know About...and The Worst Customer Support Ever The Problem When using the Meta Quest Pro with a game or app taking place in a dark environment, yellow / brown / auburn colored haze appears along the outer edge of the lenses (more so, seemingly, on the right lens, and more near the top of the lens). In a bright game or app, the problem isn't visible, but when using a dark one, this problem is apparent. In the picture below, the issue can be observed most prominently near the top of the lens -- that brownish haze. It's been speculated that the issue could be backlight bleed or IPS glow, but as far as I know, neither has been confirmed. Here are some of the threads from Reddit and from Meta's Support forum discussing the issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/yfonqx/severe_backlight_edge_bleed_on_quest_pro_possibly/ (This one contains a "solution" that does not fix the problem.) https://communityforums.atmeta.c...

iPhone 12 mini Bugs!

Image
I just upgraded to the new iPhone 12 mini, and even though I was initially impressed, I quickly ran into some bugs, a few of which are pretty serious. Many of them relate to the phone not recognizing button presses from the lock screen, so hopefully these all have the same root cause. Unable to answer phone calls! Kind of important for a phone  to be able to answer incoming calls . My phone was locked at the time, and when presented with the "Swipe to answer" control, the phone did not react to my attempts to swipe to answer the call. Buttons on Pin Screen are unresponsive.  When you reboot your phone, you're required to enter your pin, even if you have Face ID enabled. Well, the pin number buttons are unresponsive, often requiring several presses to register...if at all. I had to hard reboot my phone a couple of times to get it to the point where it was, at the most, semi-responsive. Buttons on the Lock Screen are unresponsive.  This is probably the same issue as...

Microsoft's SYNC is Awesome...When It Works

I posted a few weeks ago about a problem I had with the Microsoft SYNC system in my car not hearing my voice commands . At the time, a simple restart of my car seemed to fix the problem, but since then, the problem got worse and worse until finally not even the Bluetooth pairing to my phone would work. This was extremely frustrating considering I'd owned the car just over a month at the time. I Googled the problem and found that (surprise) other people were having the same problem, and recently. Some thought it was related to the cold. My first thought was to make sure I had the latest version of the software installed, but when I went to the official SYNC website and attempted to download the software, nothing happened. I turned on FireBug after several unsuccessful attempts to monitoring what was going on when I'd press the button and nothing would happen, and found out that there was a JavaScript error occurring that was then being submitted to a service to be logged...but n...

Sitting In Traffic, Yelling At My Car

I recently purchased a new car, the first I've had in 14 years. My previous car had reached the end, and I had no choice but to buy a new one. While I didn't get anything too fancy -- I didn't get a luxury car, or a sports car, or anything like that -- the new car does have Microsoft Sync, which allows you to do a bunch of neat stuff like sync up your cell phone via Bluetooth so you can dial and talk hands free, and do other things via voice commands. The voice command stuff usually works pretty good, but not always, and yesterday, I ran into a definite glitch: it wasn't recognizing any voice commands. At first, I was trying to use some of the stuff that I hadn't used before, but every time I issued a command, the Sync would sound the tone that means "I didn't understand that." Ironically, when it would offer suggestions on what I should say, I found it offering up the very same command I was trying to give it. I decided to give up on trying the new s...

My Recent Experience with Comcast

I recently subscribed to cable television and internet service with Comcast. I don't watch a lot of TV, so haven't had cable TV in years, but with the transition to digital TV from analog, and the poor reception I get over the air, I decided it was time to get cable again. Another reason for my subscription was due to my absolute loathing of Verizon. I've had DSL with them for years, and phone service with them since 1998. The phone line has never worked well, and every time I'd call, Verizon would blame it on wiring inside the house. Whenever it would rain heavily, the phone would go out altogether, which didn't sound like an in-the-house issue to me. After the last time a technician came out and found no problem, I traced the lines from the box and found that one of them was seriously frayed. I wish their professional technician would've noticed this. I ended up making the repair myself, and I'm not a professional phone technician. If it weren't for m...
