My Least-Loved Christmas Songs

I really enjoy Christmas music -- especially the more traditional, Johnny Mathis/Andy Williams type stuff -- but there are certain Christmas songs that I just can't stand.

For starters, it seems like I don't like anything modern, specifically new takes on old classics. Mariah Carey is very talented, but for some reason I can't explain, I don't like her versions of any of the old Christmas songs. Same goes for any of the other current mega-singers. Again, I'm not sure why -- I have nothing against them, I just don't like their renditions of those songs.

Then there's some old classics that I could never stand. For example, "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth". Personally, all I want for Christmas is for him to stop singing. Then there's a handful of songs that I used to hear, over and over, on any given Christmas at my aunt's house -- she'd always have the radio on and I guess the station only had a limited number of Christmas songs to choose from, so I got to hear "Feliz Navidad", "Jingle Bell Rock", and "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" until I wanted to cut myself.

"Santa Baby" always makes me cringe, both the original version and the Madonna version. Then there's "Blue Christmas" -- because if there's one thing I want to do at Christmas time, it's be depressed. Come on -- the suicide rate is high enough during the holidays without needing to play a song describing someone being depressed at Christmas.

Of course, I'm being very negative here, but it's all in good humor. I have some fond memories of my mother playing her old Christmas albums when I was little when we'd make Christmas cookies. I didn't have a great childhood, but Christmas was one thing that my parents always seemed to do pretty well. And I think those are most of the songs that have stuck with me over the years. I have a CD of my favorites that I try to listen to right before Christmas every year, and most of them are those old classics, with a few newer tracks as well.

Anyway, Merry Christmas everyone.

after working at the supermarket all those years, the only Christmas songs I can stand are "Mistress for Christmas" by AC\DC and "Christmas with the Devil" by Spinal Tap.

Wow, I hadn't thought of that -- that must have been torture. Too much of a good thing.

I love the AC/DC tune. Never heard the Spinal Tap one -- will have to check it out.

How was your Christmas?

Not bad,
The wife surprised me with a mountain bike.
Something I have wanted for years.
The kids had a blast.

How was yours?

Sorry to take so long to reply, been on vacation.

That's cool about the mountain bike. :)

My Christmas was good, thanks. Got some relaxation time in. :)
